Among the Heirs of Austen:  A Legacy of Four Centuries

Jane Spector Davis

Jane Davis, who lead our discussion of Emma in February 2007, now returns to explore the related magical worlds of Emma and Harry. Did you know that J.K. Rowling is often quoted as saying ''My favorite writer is Jane Austen, and I've read all her books so many times I've lost count"?

What do Frank Churchill and Sirius Black or Severus Snape have in common? Here's a clue from J.K. Rowling herself: "I have never set up a surprise ending in a Harry Potter book without knowing I can never, and will never, do it anywhere near as well as Austen did in Emma".
